Song Production
What is a Song Production or Demo
"It’s a rewarding experience to work with songwriters from a sketch of their first musical ideas through the final realization of someone’s dream song.”
It's exiting to choose the image and “feel” the song will portray. Whatever the style (rock, pop, country, hip-hop, euro techno, folk, classical, jazz, Latin, new age, acoustic, or unique) we are able to build the song track by track to a professionally mastered work of art. Whether you have a full-blown production or a song demo keying in on a specific purpose, we are experienced in all phases of production.
There is a reason our songwriters keep returning to Amodeo Music to create their music. We understand songwriters and produce the music of their dreams, within the budget they have, without compromising their sound. Everyone wants their music to jump out of the speakers and grab the listener, and hold them captive for the duration of the song while making a connection. This is the main goal of every recoding artist who walks into a recording studio.
A song production is a representation or showcase of your songwriting, musical ideas, and talents. Sometimes a song is produced for the purpose of personal enjoyment. Or, it might be produced with an intended destination in mind such as: record companies, publishers, distributors, producers, artists, talent agencies and anyone who shows interest in your songs.
A song sent to a record company in hopes of ascertaining a contract is different from a song sent to a publisher. A record company might want to hear a near finished or finished version of your songs for immediate distribution. Publishers are only interested in the song, not the artist singing or playing; they do not have time to listen to your extended guitar solo or your creative instrumental intros. They want to hear a clean version the song. Sometimes it is best to have 2 or 3 mixes of the song to fill all these requirements.
How do I get started?
Some songwriters come to us with just “a song in their head” while others may have their song written on anything from a manuscript to a piece of scrap paper. Our clients might need our help arranging the music, choosing instrumentation, and locating musicians to play and sing their song.
Sometimes the client is the artist with a great voice and he or she might able to lay down a track along with their instrument(s). Other times, the client’s talent is as the writer and our services will be to represent the song in the style the writer desires. Not sure what you want? We’ll guide you!
After you have written your song you can sing and / or play it into an inexpensive recorder and get it to us via:
- MP3 (email)
- Tape (postal service or other method)
- Bring it to the studio if you’re local
- Chords, music, and lyrics are welcomed but not necessary
- If you have a particular style in mind (for an original song) you can send a commercially produced song for reference
What happens next?
We will discuss your project. Do you want your arrangement to be unique (with its own identity) or do you want it to fall into a certain style or category? We will talk this out before production begins. We’ll create a framework for the arrangement by mapping out what instruments we’re going to use and zero in on a groove and style. If you need a vocalist to perform the song we have access to NY/NJ based singers with impressive track records. If the songwriter is a vocalist and is local, we can send you the rough mix and you can come to the studio to lay down the tracks. Some writers that are not as local have a copy of the rhythm tracks sent to them where they add their own vocals in a studio local to their home. Vocal tracks are then sent to us and we mix, edit, master, and burn to CD.
Who is recording my song?
You are entrusting your song to Jon Amodeo, owner of Amodeo Music. He is a master writer/musician/arranger/engineer. Many song projects today use sampled sounds of real instruments in a midi format to get a full sound, depending on the parameters of the song and the budget involved. Many people cannot afford to hire a string section, but a high quality sample can give very desirable results. Jon will add his touch to these sampled instruments like saxophone, flute, guitar, piano, bass or drums. If needed Jon brings in additional musicians of the highest caliber. These session musicians are the best around, and can add a special quality to your production. It's amazing what a solo violin, harp, harmonica, brass or woodwinds can add.
We guarantee that you will be satisfied with your completed project.
